Medical Notes: Conquering Your Phobias, Managing Adult Asthma, And The New Era Of Injectable Bandages

Scientists have discovered how to inject bandages into the body.

Two papers published in Advanced Science And Advanced Functional Materials show how biomedical material can stop internal bleeding in minutes and reduce clotting time by as much as 70 percent. The bandage can be injected into a wound where it reacts to body heat to fill the injury site and seal severed vessels. when compression isn’t possible, this device can be lifesaving in an emergency.

How to manage your adult asthma.

New research has found that having exhaust fans in kitchens and bathrooms can reduce asthma flare-ups in adults. The study, published in the journal Atmosphere, discovered that adults who spend up to 90 percent of their time indoors are often breathing air that is dirtier than the outdoors, but using air purifiers and ensuring proper airflow can significantly reduce symptoms and sleep disruptions.

Are you addicted to food?

Many ultra-processed foods are industrially engineered with addictive qualities similar to tobacco. Research in the Milbank Quarterly argues that packaged snacks and sugary drinks are deliberately formulated to bypass self-control and overstimulate the brain’s reward systems. Scientists believe the food industry needs to be held accountable for these deceptive products, instead of placing blame on the consumer.

Can you ever truly conquer a fear?

An expert from the University Of Miami explains that phobias are excessive fear responses that can stem from trauma, or be developed over time. The best treatment is a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and exposure therapy. This process reconditions the brain to understand that while feelings of discomfort are real, the situation is safe, eventually allowing people to live more freely without being governed by their avoidant behaviors.
