Medical Notes: How Caffeine Prevents Cancer, Reversing Heart Damage, And Your Guide To Dealing With The Winter Blues

Can heart failure be reversed?

A new animal study in NPJ Regenerative Medicine shows that a new gene therapy can recover some cardiac function. It increases the amount of blood the heart can pump – dramatically improving survival rates. The scientists focused on restoring a heart protein that’s a big indicator of the organ’s health. Not only did this method prevent heart failure from worsening, but some functioning actually improved as well. (University of Utah)

Coffee may be the secret key to fighting cancer.

Certain foods are associated with increased or lowered risks of the disease, and scientists may have just established one more. New research in the journal Cancer shows that caffeinated coffee can have substantial effects on preventing cancers of the head and neck. People who drank more than four cups a day reduced their overall risk by 17%. (University of Utah)
