Medical Notes: How Pregnancy Changes The Brain, Reversing The Negative Effects Of Social Media, And Will Iv Drips Actually Cure A Hangover?

Pregnancy changes more than just belly size.

New research published in Nature Neuroscience reveals how it also affects the brain. For the first time ever, researchers mapped the human brain over the course of an entire pregnancy. They discovered that while gray matter decreased during gestation, white matter – which is responsible for communication between brain regions – increased. Scientists hope these findings will lead to early detection of health conditions, like postpartum depression.

How much does social media affect anxiety?

Recently, the US Surgeon General And American Psychological Association voiced concerns about internet usage for young people. Thankfully, the negative effects can be reversed. A new paper shows that college students who limited their exposure to social media to just thirty minutes a day had less anxiety, depression, and feelings of loneliness. The research is published in Technology, Mind, And Behavior.

Is there anything that can cure a hangover?

More and more people are using IV drips after a night of drinking to mitigate the headaches and nausea. However, doctor sandy wang, a family medicine physician, says it may be unnecessary. I-v fluids are only needed if the patient can’t keep anything down. Otherwise, drinking electrolytes and water to increase hydration has the same effect.

Are adult braces making a comeback?

While many people think of teeth-straightening as a young person’s game, orthodontist nadia care says nearly one third of her patients are adults. In fact, many adults may need braces – or similar options – to fix bite problems and severely crowded or crooked teeth.
