Mosquitoes may soon be scared of humans.
A new study in Science Translational Medicine reveals a medication that makes our blood poisonous to these insects. The drug inhibits the mosquito’s ability to digest blood, causing them to die. The scientists hope this finding can help reduce and control diseases like malaria. (University of Notre Dame)
Trees do more for your health than simply provide oxygen.
Other than filtering pollutants from the air, they also provide shade and lower the ambient temperature in hot weather. Because of this, many communities are focused on planting more trees and new research shows that the arrangement of them matters more than you’d think. The experiment shows that having large, continuous areas of tree canopies correlates to lower mortality rates. the research is published in Lancet Planet Health. (ETH Zurich)
Is soup good for pregnancy?
A new study in the journal Nutrients reveals that eating chili could reduce the risk for gestational diabetes. If untreated, the condition can increase the chances of high blood pressure and preterm labor. The scientists found that women who ate chili once a month lowered their risk of developing gestational diabetes by nearly four percent. However, more research is needed to verify these results.
