“I’m a rapper not no mf model,” Megan Thee Stallion rapped in her song “Captain Hook,”—but she didn’t say anything about being an actress. While she’s not new to the game of acting (she’s been featured in TV shows like P-Valley and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law), the Houston-born rapper has made her film debut in Dicks: The Musical and has joined the cast of Netflix’s Big Mouth.
Dicks: The Musical, produced by A24 and directed by Larry Charles, is a musical comedy that follows the life of two self-absorbed, business rivals who eventually find out that they’re identical twins. They then scheme to get their parents back together, so they can live happily ever after. It’s basically a hilariously crude spin on The Parent Trap. But the real star of the film, Gloria Masters, is played by thee hot girl herself.
Gloria Masters is the witty, powerful, potty-mouthed boss of the narcissistic twins. The role suited Megan perfectly as it’s simply a ruthless and glorified version of who she already is as a rapper. Gloria’s no-nonsense, money motivated, girl-boss persona leaves viewers captivated and laughing out loud—especially when she’s rapping and twerking during her musical number “Out-Alpha the Alpha,” which serves as a vulgar, women’s empowerment anthem, Meg’s specialty.
With lyrics like “These baby boys can’t keep the pace, / they’re all so fuckin’ slow / They love actin’ like they run the place, / but I’m the CEO/ These men are fuckin’ dinosaurs about to be destroyed / And I’m the asteroid.” Who else could have been a better fit for this role?
The Hot Girl Coach has been deep in her acting bag. She’s also featured in Netflix’s Big Mouth for its seventh season. She voices Hormone Montress Megan, who oversees Danni, a new character in the series played by Zazie Beetz.
Hormone Monstress Megan makes a grand entrance to the show by sliding out of a giant mouth in the sky as she says, “Aw, shit! Booty fatter than a pear! Your Hormone Monstress Megan is here!” The part fits the “WAP” rapper like a glove as she has been open about her love for anime, and she’s clearly taken some notes on voice acting to fulfill this role.
What’s so interesting about Megan Thee Stallion taking on these roles is seeing how cross-functional her talents are. Big Mouth also received a special musical number from the rap star as her character explained to Danni the difference between platonic and intimate relationships. “There’s laughing, then there’s screaming,” she raps. “You gotta land with the man that gets you off.”
It’s so refreshing to see Megan overcome all that she has and use her bubbly and bold personality to venture off and be part of new projects. Maybe one day she’ll get her dream role as Isis, head cheerleader of the East Compton Clovers. The role was originally portrayed by Gabrielle Union in the fan-favorite film series Bring It On. “I always have wanted to be Isis. I would be perfect for that,” Megan told The Cut. “If they were ever to make a new Bring It On, I should be that character.”
