Michigan gas prices down at beginning of June

(The Center Square) – Michigan gas prices fell 13 cents from a week ago, according to the American Automobile Association.

The state average for regular unleaded gasoline rose over Memorial Day weekend to around $3.66 per gallon, but decreased to $3.52 as of Tuesday.

“Pump prices across Michigan are down as we enter the month of June,” said spokesperson for the AAA Adrienne Woodland. “Lower gasoline demand, increasing supply and falling oil costs could push gas prices down further.”

Michigan drivers now pay an average of $53 to fill a 15 gallon tank.

The cities of Jackson ($3.65), Ann Arbor ($3.60) and Marquette ($3.57) currently have the most expensive average gas prices in the state. Benton Harbor ($3.49), Flint ($3.50) and Traverse City ($3.52) have the least expensive average prices.

The lowest gasoline price in the state is $2.94 for regular unleaded, found at three gas stations in Ironwood and one in Bessemer, according price reports by GasBuddy on Tuesday.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, is confident nationwide gas prices will lower more during the summer.

“Motorists are likely to see more stations lowering prices to $2.99 per gallon or less as the summer wears on, and refiners ramp up output after finishing maintenance,” he said in a May press release.

The current national average price of gasoline sits at $3.51 per gallon, according to AAA.
