Nashville will host the Super Bowl for the first time in 2030

(The Center Square) – Nashville and its new stadium opening in the fall of next year will host the Super Bowl in February 2030, the NFL said Tuesday.

The league’s 64th playing of the big game will be the first for the Music City. NFL owners, rendering the decision at their spring meeting in Orlando, had previously ticketed upcoming Super Bowls to SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., after this season, Mercedez-Benz Stadium in Atlanta after the 2027 season and Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas after the 2028 campaign.

“The 2019 NFL Draft in Nashville was one of the greatest fan events in our history,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. “Super Bowl LXIV at the new stadium is the next step in this remarkable football journey.”

The contest will be played at the new Nissan Stadium, scheduled to open in 2027. The $2.2 billion project is coming at a cost to taxpayers. The state of Tennessee is funding $500 million, $760 million of construction funding through Nashville’s Sports Authority and $975 million from the Tennessee Titans.

“We invested in a new stadium with a vision for the future – one that brings major events, drives tourism, and fuels economic growth while creating new opportunity for communities across Tennessee,” Gov. Bill Lee said. “I’m grateful for the partnerships that made this possible, and we look forward to showcasing all that our state has to offer on a global stage.”

Tennessee House Republicans called it a huge economic win.

“From new jobs to packed hotels and more than $1.25 billion in tourism revenue and global exposure for Tennessee, hosting one of the world’s biggest sporting events will be massive for the Tennessee economy,” the group said in a social media post. “Plus, we get to showcase everything that makes Tennessee special.”

The Nashville Convention and Visitors Corporation will lead the event, according to information from the Titans.

“Nashville is the complete package when it comes to hosting the nation’s biggest events,” Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell said in a statement. “Nashville has repeatedly demonstrated that top events succeed here because of the way we come together to offer an unmatched entertainment experience.”
