(The Center Square) – Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed a bill that provides a year-end supplemental budget for community college capital outlay planning.
Colleges funded include Delta College, Grand Rapids Community College, Kalamazoo Valley Community College, Macomb Community College, Mott Community College, and Wayne County Community College. The state budget also includes $32.8 million in funding for the 22 community colleges not receiving funding through House Bill 4292.
“Capital outlay projects and ITEMS funding allow our community colleges to make improvements students and faculty need for continued success and modernize campus buildings, bolstering resources for students,” Whitmer said. “As the governor and legislature begin the FY 2024-2025 state budget process, we stand ready to work with them to continue making critical investments for the benefit of our students and communities.”
The bill requires community colleges to pay for at least half of the project cost.
