New poll shows Iowa Republicans favor Trump

(The Center Square) – Former President Donald Trump is leading all other Republican presidential candidates in Iowa with just six weeks to go until the Iowa caucus, according to a poll from the Trafalgar Group.

The poll of 1,091 likely Republican voters taken between Dec. 1-4 shows Trump with 45.3%, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis with 21.7% and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley with 19.4%. Vivek Ramaswamy has a slight lead over former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (4.7% to 4.1%). Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson received 1.3%.

More than 75% of those polled said they would likely vote in the Jan. 15, 2024 caucus.

Trump’s lead increased slightly from a November poll of 1,804 likely Republican voters when he received 43.8% of the support. DeSantis’ percentages increased from 17.5% in November, while Haley jumped from 15.1%. South Carolina Congressman Tim Scott, who dropped out of the race in November, received 8.6% of the support. Ramaswamy and Christie tied in November at 4.5%.

North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, who dropped out of the race this week, garnered 4.1% and Hutchinson received .03%. The November poll was taken between Nov. 3-5

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds announced last month she is backing DeSantis. Trump has the support of Attorney General Breanna Bird.

Republicans will caucus on the night of Jan. 15 and immediately count the votes.

Democrats are using mail-in ballots. Interested voters have until Feb. 19 to receive a presidential preference card. The results will be counted on March 5, which is Super Tuesday, according to the Iowa Democratic Party
