North Carolina reaches deal on parts of 2-year budget

(The Center Square) – On Day 316 after implementation was to begin, General Assembly leaders say North Carolina has agreement on parts of its two-year budget.

Day 317, and beyond, will continue Wednesday still seeking the final product.

Sen. Phil Berger, R-Rockingham, and House Speaker Destin Hall, R-Caldwell hosted a joint press conference Tuesday afternoon to share details of the framework. Lawmakers were haggling mightily over state employee raises, inclusive of teachers and lawmen, as well as any changes to ongoing declining of income tax and Medicaid.

The Medicaid rebase was settled and signed into law April 30.
