Olsommer wins special election to fill Adams’ seat

(The Center Square) – Republican Jeff Olsommer defeated Democrat Robin Skibber in a special election for a seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives on Tuesday.

Olsommer’s win prevented Democrats from increasing a slim 102-101 majority in the chamber. He is owner of an insurance business and former director of the Wayne Economic Development Corp.

The 139th District election for representation of Pike and Wayne counties in the Poconos was necessary after Rep. Joe Adams in February resigned citing a medical issue he said required him to prioritize taking care of his family.

Former Auditor General Eugene DePasquale won the Democratic nomination to face Republican York County District Attorney Dave Sunday in the attorney general race.

Sunday handily defeated state Rep. Craig Williams with roughly 70% of the vote. He received an endorsement from the Pennsylvania Republican Party, which prompted former Assistant U.S. Attorney Katayoun Copeland to drop out of the race.

In a field of five candidates, DePasquale had almost 37% of the support. He was trailed by Jack Stollsteimer (20%), Joe Khan (16%), Keir Bradford-Grey (15%) and Jared Solomon (13%).

DePasquale touted his personal experience with the criminal justice system’s need to balance public safety with offering second chances. His father was a veteran who struggled with substance abuse.

The attorney general seat has been an important office for future governors. Gov. Josh Shapiro won his position rising from attorney general in 2022.

Michelle Henry, who stepped in to fill the vacant seat Shapiro left, did not pursue election.
