On this day in 1992, The Cosby Show aired its final episode

On April 30, 1992, the NBC sitcom “The Cosby Show” aired its final episode. The groundbreaking show centered on an upper-middle-class Black family living in Brooklyn, New York.

The Cosby Show starred Bill Cosby, who played Dr. Heathcliff “Cliff” Huxtable. Phylicia Rashād played Clair Hanks Huxtable, an attorney. Together they had five children. 

The show ran for eight successful seasons from 1984 to 1992. The Huxtables held the highest ratings in their prime-time spot for five consecutive seasons between 1984 and 1989. 

The popularity of “The Cosby Show” allowed for the spin-off of “A Different World,” based on the fictional historically Black college Hillman College.
