“E pluribus unum” is Latin is for “out of many, one,” America’s motto how our nation was founded by immigrants seeking opportunity and refuge from aristocracies. Emma Lazarus said it best: “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free.” By the very nature of the principles of our founding, more than any other world nation, America has beckoned to its shores the downtrodden, the persecuted, the displaced, the poor and those seeking freedom and liberty.
America embraces those who come here honestly, with skills and a work ethic, in search of their American Dream. There is nothing more special about America than its founding. America was not a land that was conquered, stolen or seized as a result of war. America was a nation invented by immigrant enlightenment thinkers so men could self-govern in a nation governed by the governed.
Most immigrants say they came here for more opportunities for themselves and their children. They came to the U.S. for better work and education, a better future for their children, and more rights and freedoms. Lately, more cite they wanted to escape poverty, lack of good paying jobs, unsafe cities and violence in their country. Recently, almost all claim they came here for political asylum.
There’s always been a bipartisan belief that those who come here become Americans. The key to successful U.S. immigration is patriotic assimilation, which increases our capital and strengthens our economy. America welcomes those who embrace our civic culture and institutions. This is our finite “e pluribus unum.” America has been good for immigrants, and they are good for America.
While immigration to the U.S. was at an all-time high, it has been tarnished by progressives. To them, America is no longer the land of milk and honey, it is a cruel place for everyone but the white middle class. Today, negativity is so deeply ingrained in our culture that it is now the media’s default narrative. Progressives want to destroy every American institution by reinventing history to make America look like the worst county in the world. And this is attracting a different character of immigrants.
When Joe Biden was in office, he bowed to the progressives every wish. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported in 2023 there were more than 2.4 million encounters at the Southwest border and more than 3.2 million encounters nationwide. This doesn’t include those entering illegally though our ports, airlines, by watercraft or those with visas who forget to go home.
Obviously, progressives don’t love America. It is inbred within progressive culture to convince people to react to what they perceive as threats and fears. Since progressives have partnered with liberal media, the share of American news headlines denoting fear increased by a whopping 104% from 2000 to 2020. It is expected to double again this year.
Progressives want to remake America into a socialist Shangri La. And this new breed of social justice Democrats could care less if their immigrants culturally assimilate. They look at them as numbers in the census to give more House seats to progressives. And if they happen to become citizens, they will more than likely vote progressive. The majority of immigrants who came to the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries arrived from Europe, especially western Europe. But in 1965 with the passage of The Immigration and Nationality Act, the new law abolished the national origins quota system established in 1924 with The Immigration Act. And this opened our borders to anyone seeking entry from any country.
Progressives and Biden have extended an invitation to everyone who wants to come to America regardless of their country of origin, criminal or drug record and even if they have a a past history of fraternizing with terrorist groups. As long as they claim they are seeking asylum, they are being welcomed by progressives. Many are unskilled and come here to live off our generous benefits.
Currently the U.S. border is being inundated with Chinese. The CBP reported 24,048 Chinese were apprehended this year. That’s 10 times more than last year. Since they are from Red China, this is an easy way to infiltrate America. Gordon Chang of the Gatestone Institute said “Packs of Chinese males of military age, pretending not to speak English, are likely saboteurs who will harm the U.S.”
It is no secret that the EU has its own problems with immigration and many of those skilled workers would love to come to America. But the attitude towards U.S. migration from Europe has slowed due to the international press expounding on the number of undesirables entering the U.S. today.
The world image projected by progressives is that the United States is in decline and there is little to attract Europeans any longer. Europeans trying to escape the Muslim influence are risking their lives going to other EU nations. Many claim since America now has open borders and they are allowing drug dealers, criminals and terrorists to cross their border, they’d be no safer in the U.S.
Media negativity has a powerful effect on how the world views America. Progressives have been feeding so much misinformation about white supremacy and race issues in the U.S. it’s distorting the views with our foreign allies. This is a threat to our national security as a world superpower.
Biden’s open border policy was bad for America because so many unskilled migrants are crossing the southern border to live off government benefits. It is also influencing the desirable Europeans to relocate to other EU nations rather than bring their skills and work ethic to the shores of America.
Baltasar Gracian wrote, “A single lie destroys a whole reputation of integrity.” If America is as bad as progressives claim it is, why are so many immigrants risking their lives to come here? The agitprop about America the progressives are spreading about the social conditions in America is detouring skilled immigrants from Europe who are trying to escape the threat of a Muslim takeover of Europe. Progressives got what they wanted; more unskilled workers from south of the border.
While progressives rant about the sins of our past and condemn our founders, but we thank God for sending our clairvoyant immigrant founders to the ports of America.
