The Pentagon has ordered all military libraries to review and remove books related to diversity, anti-racism and gender issues by Wednesday, according to the Associated Press.
The U.S. Naval Academy initially pulled 381 titles, including Maya Angelou’s “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” and books on civil rights and the Holocaust.
Following a more specific review, most of those books have been returned, with about 20 still under review.
The Army and Air Force are conducting similar reviews.
The directive — part of a broader Trump administration effort to eliminate DEI-related content from federal institutions — included keywords like “affirmative action” and “white privilege.”
Officials say further guidance will determine which books — if any — will be permanently removed or stored.
