Pentagon Orders Review of DEI Books in Military Libraries

The has ordered all libraries to review and remove books related to diversity, anti- and gender issues by Wednesday, according to the .

The U.S. Naval Academy initially pulled 381 titles, including Maya Angelou’s “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” and books on civil rights and the Holocaust.

Following a more specific review, most of those books have been returned, with about 20 still under review.

The Army and Air Force are conducting similar reviews.

The directive — part of a broader Trump administration effort to eliminate DEI-related content from federal institutions — included keywords like “affirmative action” and “white privilege.”

Officials say further guidance will determine which books — if any — will be permanently removed or stored.
