Poll: Health care costs interfere with Tennesseans financial stability

(The Center Square) – Tennessee residents believe high health care costs not covered by their insurance or employer are the most significant reason they cannot reach financial stability and growth, according to a new Beacon Center poll on a wide range of issues.

The poll of 1,197 registered voters in Tennessee showed 40% believe they could realize financial growth and 42% believe they could not. Of the 501 who believe they can’t, the high cost of housing was the second reason at 17% of respondents and the limited availability of full-time jobs matching their skills and interests is the third-highest reason at 15%.

The poll showed Donald Trump remains a heavy presidential favorite in Tennessee at 60% compared to Joe Biden’s 31% while Trump had 48%, Biden had 25% and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had 16% in a three-way vote.

Marsha Blackburn has 42% of the votes and Gloria Johnson 26% with 27% unsure for the Tennessee Senate while 57% of respondents said they were not a fan of Taylor Swift and 37% say that they are.

Just 25% of respondents said they participate in sports betting while 42% support its legality, 19% are against it, 28% are neutral and 11% are unsure.

Only 29% said that they support a recent Biden Administration rule about gig workers and full-time status while 36% oppose the rule. Beacon Center filed a lawsuit on behalf of two Tennessee freelance journalists challenging the rule.
