Poll: Most Americans Disapprove of East Wing Demolition

(AURN News) — The East Wing of the White House is being torn down — and Americans aren’t on board.

Only 23% of U.S. adults say they approve of “the decision to demolish part of the East Wing of the White House as part of the renovation” at the executive mansion, according to a new YouGov poll. That includes just 10% who strongly approve and 13% who somewhat approve. Fifty-three percent say they strongly or somewhat disapprove.

The work, which will make way for President Donald Trump’s new $300 million ballroom, sparked even more controversy when it was revealed that the entire East Wing will be demolished to complete the project.

The poll was conducted before the demolition plans were made public. Among Republicans, 22% strongly approved and 22% somewhat approved — but those numbers were recorded before voters knew the full scale of the teardown.

The East Wing has long served as the formal entrance for public tours, the site of the first lady’s office and a workspace for support staff.
