Poll: Republican priorities of Iran, economy do not gain approval

(The Center Square) – Military operations in Iran are opposed, economic conditions are worse under Donald Trump, and leadership by the president, vice president, secretaries of state and war, and Congress are all disapproved, a new poll says.

Conducted March 13-20, the 800 North Carolinians ages 18 and older sampled by the Elon University Poll had a collective negative impression (52%) of U.S. immigration and Customs Enforcement but more respondents (41%) than not (38%) said ICE should get cooperation from state, county and local lawmen.

“North Carolinians are showing clear hesitation about further military escalation,” said Dr. Jason Husser, director of the Elon Poll. “The strong opposition to deploying ground troops, coupled with the bipartisan desire for congressional oversight, signals significant public anxiety about the long-term safety and direction of the U.S. involvement abroad.”

The military involvement is opposed by 51% of the respondents and supported by 30%. Asked if the economy is better, the same or worse since Trump’s second inauguration, 55% said worse, 25% said about the same and 20% said it is better.

In approval ratings, the second-term Republican president was 55% disapprove and 35% approve; Vice President J.D. Vance 45% disapprove and 34% approve; Secretary of State Marco Rubio 38% disapprove and 34% approve; Secretary of War Pete Hegseth 46% disapprove and 30% approve; and Congress 64% disapprove and 11% approve.

The poll’s margin of error is +/- 4.43%.

The Elon University Poll bills itself as “full funded by Elon University,” thereby “permitting the Elon University Poll to operate as the neutral, non-biased resource of information for citizens and political and business leaders. As a result of this generous support, the Elon University poll does not engage in any contract work.”
