Poll says 3 in 4 North Carolina voters believe America is on the wrong track

(The Center Square) – America is on the wrong track, say 3 in 4 North Carolina voters surveyed by the High Point University poll.

It’s also 3 in 4 that said they have confidence in the election results that would be posted.

In response to, “Do you think things in this country are generally going in the right direction or do you feel things have gotten pretty seriously off on the wrong track?”, 73% of respondents chose “wrong track” and 21% “right direction.” There were 7% unsure in the results released Monday morning.

The sampling of 1,042 adults – 813 said they are registered to vote – was done in online interviews Jan. 16-26. The credibility interval is +/- 3.3%.

Asked, “How much confidence do you have that the 2024 election results will accurately reflect the votes that are cast?”, registered voters tallied 35% for “a lot of confidence” and 38% for “some confidence” against 23% for no confidence and 4% unsure.

Related to policy coming from Washington, D.C., the top concerns for registered voters in the sampling were inflation (72%), national security (71%), school safety (70%), protecting democracy (66%) and health care in general (66%). The percentages align with choosing “very important” over somewhat important, not very important, not at all important, and unsure.

The poll also asked respondents which political party would do a better job dealing with certain issues, most of which were on a national scale; and favorable or unfavorable views of select legislative, executive and judicial branches of government.
