President Biden Highlights $1 Billion in Medicare Prescription Drug Savings Amid GOP Repeal Threats

President Joe Biden visited Concord, New Hampshire, yesterday with Sen. Bernie Sanders to spotlight the Biden-Harris administration’s efforts in cutting healthcare costs for Americans, especially seniors. A new report from the Department of Health and Human Services reveals that thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, nearly 1.5 million Medicare enrollees have saved close to $1 billion on prescription drugs during just the first half of 2024, with more savings expected this year.

Vice President Kamala Harris, who cast the tie-breaking vote on the act, also issued a statement highlighting key achievements, including capping insulin costs at $35 per month for seniors and negotiating lower prices for some of the most widely used medications.

Harris, a longtime advocate for healthcare reform, vowed to continue to fight for affordable healthcare, emphasizing her track record of holding Big Pharma accountable. As Republican officials aim to repeal these critical protections, the administration is pushing forward with more efforts to make healthcare accessible and affordable.
