Presidential candidates on primary ballots finalized

(The Center Square) – Nine weeks away from the primaries, and two weeks from putting ballots in the mail, the North Carolina Board of Elections on Tuesday finalized the listing of presidential candidates.

No candidates were added or rejected beyond what parties requested, translating to President Joe Biden being the lone listing for the Democratic primary and former President Donald Trump making the Republican ballot.

Last month, the state board approved Democratic, Libertarian and Republican candidates as submitted.

The primary is March 5, also known as Super Tuesday. Primary ballots for voters requesting them by mail will begin going out Jan. 19.

The Republican presidential primary ballot includes Trump, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, and pastor and businessman Ryan Binkley.

The Green Party did not submit candidates for the primary but can nominate a candidate for the Nov. 5 general election. The No Labels Party nominates general election candidates by convention rather than primary.

Libertarians submitted a list of 10, and all will be on the primary ballot. They are Toad Anderson, Charles Ballay, David Dunlap, Jacob Hornberger, Lars Mapstead, Chase Oliver, Michael Rectenwald, Joshua Smith and Mike ter Maat.
