Refunds Up, Prices Higher — Trump Faces Economic Reality in Nevada

(AURN News) — President Donald Trump touched down in Las Vegas on Thursday, a day after Tax Day, using the occasion to spotlight his administration’s tax agenda, including a plan that temporarily removes taxes on tips, overtime and Social Security income through 2028.

The White House is pointing to bigger refunds this year, averaging just over $3,400 — about $300 more than last year — as proof that its strategy is working.

But on the ground in Nevada, that argument is running into a different reality.

Gas prices are hovering around $5 a gallon, nearly 30% higher than at the same time last year.

And not just in fuel — residents are seeing sharp increases in everyday essentials, from groceries to utilities, with some energy costs expected to rise even more in the coming years.

Politically, warning signs are emerging. Recent polling shows roughly two-thirds of Latino voters in Nevada disapprove of how the president is handling the economy and immigration.
