(The Center Square) – The San Francisco Examiner reported there was one protester who showed up Oct. 5 to Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s funeral service in San Francisco. Feinstein was the longest serving female U.S. Senator in history.
The city was prepared for a much bigger – and violent – reaction as it stated in documents to the board of supervisors recently that the only time during the 2023 reporting period it deployed its sniper rifles was for two days involving the funeral services of Feinstein. The only other time the sniper rifles were used in 2023 were for training.
“The sniper rifle is used exclusively by the SRT [Special Response Team] sniper team for high risk SRT events and special events where ‘over watch’ is appropriate,” the document stated. “Sniper Rifles may only be deployed by SRT sniper team members.”
The San Francisco Sheriff’s Office releases a report every year of how it used specialized military equipment. The 2023 reporting period was from May through December.
