Report: Wisconsin saw 3.9% increase in homelessness over past year

(The Center Square) – Wisconsin was a 3.9% increase in homelessness over the past year, according to a new report from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Wisconsin saw nine people experience homelessness per 10,000 people during the year.

The data showed that more than 5,000 in the state experienced homelessness in 2024 with 510 experiencing unsheltered homelessness.

The state has seen a 10.6% decrease in homelessness since 2007.

Wisconsin saw 351 veterans experience homelessness and 1,913 in families with children experience homelessness during the year.

There were 216 unaccompanied youth who experienced homelessness in Wisconsin in 2024 and 357 individuals categorized as experiencing chronic homelessness.

Overall, the U.S. has seen more people experiencing homelessness for the first time.
