(The Center Square) – At least one fatality and multiple injuries were initially reported in New York City when a gunman opened fire at a 44-story building housing NFL headquarters and investment management Blackstone on Monday evening.
Images circulated on social media almost immediately of a man with a long gun walking into the Park Avenue skyscraper plaza. National media outlets reported at least six people shot; the New York Post and others reported a New York City police officer died and others were injured in the shooting.
The Post and others said the man then turned the gun on himself.
There was no evidence initially reporting the shooting was linked to any business in the building.
According to published reports, the officer who died was off city duty and on a paid detail for the owner of the building.
In addition to the NFL, the building also houses Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan and the consulate general of Ireland, published reports say.
Dan Bongino, FBI deputy director, was on social media saying agents were responding in support to an “active crime scene.”
