Sanders introduces faith-based initiative

(The Center Square) – Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders is reaching out to faith-based organizations for help with some of the state’s issues.

The governor announced Friday she is launching a new initiative that will “unite Arkansas’ diverse faith communities around issues facing the Natural State.” Some of the issues included are childhood hunger, mental illness, maternal health, foster care and social media, according to a news release from Sanders’ office.

“Faith is the guiding light in my life and in the lives of so many Arkansans,” Sanders said. “Arkansas’ faith communities are built on serving others. When we unite our churches, temples, and faith-based nonprofits around the common issues facing our state, I know we’ll build a better, brighter Arkansas.”

Sanders is asking faith leaders to sign up on a new website. The governor’s office will reach out to respondents after a list is compiled, according to the news release.

Sanders did not give any further details.
