(The Center Square) – Sandia National Laboratories had a nearly $4.8 billion economic impact during fiscal year 2023, according to the Lab.

The impact surpassed its previous record by $559 million.

Sandia Labs exemplified this growth by adding 1,200 jobs in the last year, paying $114 in gross tax receipts to New Mexico and $1.08 billion to small business suppliers who aided in its operation.

“For more than seven decades, Sandia Labs’ dedication to outstanding service has significantly contributed to the national good. Our collaboration with a wide range of suppliers has been crucial to our achievements. Engaging with small businesses fuels creativity, creates jobs, and introduces advancements that enhance the quality of life,” Labs Director James Peery said.

Sandia National Labs will hold an economic impact news conference on Thursday, January 11, at 9:30 a.m. local time, where it will further delve into its economic impact and successes with small businesses.

“Small businesses are the backbone of the U.S. economy, and the capabilities they offer are vital to our national security mission. Sandia continues to be committed to small businesses both nationally and locally here in New Mexico,” Zach Mikelson, small business program manager, said. “The partnership between Sandia and small businesses strengthens our community and ensures support for Sandia’s mission for years to come.”
