Senator objects to $50 million grant to Climate Justice Alliance over views on Palestine

A U.S. Senator has raised concerns about a $50 million grant the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded to the Climate Justice Alliance, a group that advocates for action on climate change.

U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., vice chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, said the Environment and Public Works Committee, found the EPA gave a $50 million grant to the group with money from the Inflation Reduction Act. She said the group “engages in pro-Hamas, anti-Israel, and anti-Semitic activities.”

The EPA said the grant had yet to be awarded.

The group’s website features calls for the support of Palestine, which it links to climate change.

“The path to climate justice travels through a free Palestine,” according to the website.

Capito objected to the group’s political positions.

“In December, the EPA granted $50 million to an organization called Climate Justice Alliance. So we went to the website of Climate Justice Alliance,” she said. “If you dig deeper. They want to defund the police, defund the military, either them or their affiliates, want to have very radical, drastic initiatives that I think are anti-American, and they’re certainly anti-Israel and anti-Semitic.”

The group didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday.

“EPA has selected the 11 Grantmakers and is in the process of awarding funding,” a spokesperson for the EPA told Fox News Digital. “As such, no grant has been awarded and no subgrants have been issued through the Grantmakers program by CJA or any other Grantmaker.”
