(The Center Square) – Recent data from Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux’s office shows more than 8 million pounds of trash and debris have been cleaned off the streets in six neighborhoods so far.
A neighborhood breakdown was shared this week for the halfway point of the Block by Block neighborhood cleanup.
Officials and residents cleaned up six tons of litter in Ingleside and collected 238 tires. In the Highland area, 64 tons of litter and 35 tires were collected. In the Queensboro neighborhood, numbers were significantly higher – 103 tons of litter and 585 tires were collected during the weekend cleanup.
The MLK neighborhood, Cedar Grove and Allendale have also been swept. In the MLK area, 69 tons of litter and 483 tires were collected; in Cedar Grove, it was 89 tons of litter and 420 tires; and in Allendale, 69 tons of litter and 480 tires were retrieved.
In total, 400 tons, which is equal to around 8 million pounds, and 2,241 tires were picked up over the past two months in the city.
There are five more cleanups scheduled through Sept. 20. West Shreveport is first, followed by Stoner Hill, Southern Hills, Mooretown and Broadmoor.
“From our city departments to our neighborhood volunteers, everyone is leaning in to make their communities cleaner, safer, and stronger,” Arceneaux said. “Block by Block isn’t just about clearing debris – it’s about restoring pride, building trust, and showing that real change is possible when we work together.”
Block by Block targets specific areas in need and was developed in partnership with the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative.
