(The Center Square) — The South Carolina Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits for a Wisconsin company planning to establish operations in Clarendon County.

Verona, Wisconsin-based Latitude Corp., a “contract manufacturer of precision metal manufacturing solutions,” plans to spend $29 million on its Palmetto State operations, which includes the purchase of a 50,000-square-foot facility on Joe Rogers Blvd. in Manning. Officials said the company would create 200 jobs as part of its spending.

The council also awarded Clarendon County a $400,000 Rural Infrastructure Fund grant to help with building improvement costs. Operations should start by June 2024.

In a news release, Clarendon County Council Chairman Dwight L. Steward Jr. indicated the company’s investment marks “the largest single jobs announcement in the history of the county.”

The South Carolina Department of Commerce previously confirmed to The Center Square that the value of job development credits depends on the wage rate paid to employees and the county’s tier ranking. Since the credits are performance-based, the company may not collect them until they meet their investment and job creation requirements.

Additionally, Santee Electric, which has an office in Manning, built “a spec building suitable to [Latitude’s] needs,” which helped the company “to narrow down [its] facility choice,” Latitude President Tom Verbos said in a news release.
