Special election set for Georgia Senate seat

(The Center Square) – Voters in Senate District 35 will go to the polls on Nov. 18 to decide who will replace Jason Esteves, who stepped down to run for governor.

Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said Wednesday a runoff would take place on Dec. 16 if needed.

Qualifying begins Monday and ends Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Senate District 35 includes parts of Cobb and Fulton County. Esteves ran unopposed in the 2024 general election.

It’s the second special election for a Georgia Senate seat this year. Republican Jason Dickerson defeated Democrat Debra Shigley for the Senate District 21 post.

The seat was formerly held by Brandon Beach, who now serves as the U.S. treasurer in the Trump administration.
