Spokane City Councilmember Jonathan Bingle announces run for Congress

(The Center Square) – Spokane City Councilmember Jonathan Bingle is entering the Republican primary for the 5th Congressional District seat left open following Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers decision not to seek re-election.

Bingle has served on the council since 2022 representing northeast Spokane’s District 1. Bingle and his wife Christina have three children.

“We have a young family and this is still a young country,” Bingle said. “It’s time for a revival of the American values that have provided so much of our strength in our first two and a half centuries. We need to turn away from division and unify in hope for the future.”

The couple has owned and operated a small business in Spokane since 2010 organizing custom events from corporate celebrations to weddings. During the ban on gatherings during the COVID-19 shutdowns, Bingle turned to general contracting to support the family.

“Contracting was an essential business and we had to find a way to make a living,” Bingle said.

He and his wife have since returned to running the events company.

Bingle also worked as a pastor before turning full time to business.

“Being a Christian, my entire world view flows from my hope to glorify God in each decision,” he said. “Being a pastor is similar to being in elected office. Your job is listening to people, listening to their problems, and trying to find ways to help them.”

Bingle’s campaign website at bingleforamerica.com lists border security, energy independence, agriculture and environmental stewardship as priorities.

Councilmember Bingle joins the current Republican field, which includes Rep. Jacquelin Maycumber, Ferry County Commissioner Brian Dansel and retired state employee John Guenther.

Three Democrats – Ann Marie Danimus, Carmela Conroy and Bernadine “Bernie” Bank – have also declared their campaigns.
