Supreme Court Rules 8-1 Against Colorado Ban on “Conversion Therapy” for LGBTQ+ Minors

(AURN News) — The Supreme Court ruled 8-1 against Colorado’s ban on “conversion therapy” for LGBTQ+ minors, siding with a Christian counselor who argued the law violates the First Amendment, The Associated Press reported.

Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote that the law improperly censors speech based on viewpoint, and the case was sent back to a lower court for further review.

Liberal Justices Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor joined the majority.

In dissent, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson warned the ruling could weaken states’ ability to regulate health care.

Colorado defended the law as protecting minors from a discredited and harmful practice.

Advocates say the decision threatens similar bans nationwide, even as major medical groups continue to condemn conversion therapy as dangerous and ineffective.
