TDOT prepares for 65K headed to Bonnaroo on I-24 from June 13-16

(The Center Square) – The Tennessee Department of Transportation has a plan in place to keep traffic flowing on Interstate 24 as more than 65,000 people are expected to travel to Manchester for Bonnaroo between June 13-16.

There will be no construction-related closures on the highway between 6 a.m. Wednesday and 7 p.m. on Jun 17, extra patrols will be in the area and festival traffic will be directed to travel in the right lane or on the shoulder of the interstate to allow through traffic to flow in the right lane.

“TDOT has once again coordinated with our agency partners to ensure safe and efficient travel during the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival,” Deputy Governor and TDOT Commissioner Butch Eley said in a statement. “The main objective is to keep thru traffic moving smoothly on I-24 while getting festivalgoers safely in and out of the Bonnaroo site. As a result of this planning, we believe we can successfully minimize traffic delays throughout the weekend.”

State Road 55, exit 111, will be the main festival exit and median crossovers will be guarded to prevent motorists from parking in crossovers and blocking emergency vehicles.

Temporary communication towers will be used to improve emergency communications.
