Telemarketing robocalls, motor vehicle complaints were heard most

(The Center Square) – Telemarketing robocalls and gripes about motor vehicles were the Nos. 1 and 2 consumer complaints to the North Carolina attorney general’s office in 2024.

The top five was rounded out by credit, the internet and landlord-tenant complaints.

“We have safeguarded people’s hard-earned money, defended their rights, and kept them safe in their homes and neighborhoods,” said Gov. Josh Stein in a release. He’s been attorney general the last eight years and on Wednesday took the oath of governor.

The 58-year-old Democrat added, “I’m so grateful for the hardworking public servants at the Department of Justice and the work they do to serve our state.”

The rest of the top 10 for complaints handled by Stein’s office were utilities, home improvement, professional services, insurance, and land or real estate.

A release from Stein’s former office says $81 million in judgments and settlements were won by the Consumer Protection Division. During his eight years, the division won more than $3 billion.
