Ten challengers in Durham City Council at-large primary on Oct. 10

The nonpartisan primary for Durham, North Carolina, is on Oct. 10.

Candidates are competing to advance to the nonpartisan general election Nov. 7. The filing deadline to run was on July 21.

Candidates filed for City Council at-large and mayor. There are three seats up for election on the city council. The candidates are incumbents Javiera Caballero and Monique Holsey-Hyman; and challengers Nate Baker, Shanetta Burris, J.J. Campbell, Waldo Fenner, Bonita Green, Shelia Ann Huggins, Khalilah Karim, Carl Rist, Sherri Zann Rosenthal and Renee Vaughan.

Mayoral candidates are Charlitta Burruss, Jontae Dunston, DeDreana Freeman, Nick Pettiford, Marshall Williams, Jr., Leonardo Williams, Sylvester Williams, and Mike Woodard.

Durham is the fourth-largest city in North Carolina and the 74th-largest city in the U.S. by population.
