This Black Republican Is Competitive. Why Isn’t He a Headline?

(AURN News) — There is one Black Republican in the closely watched race for U.S. Senate in Texas. The question is whether he will receive as much attention as the other GOP candidates running.

In the Republican primary, headlines have largely been dominated by two names: Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and incumbent U.S. Sen. John Cornyn.

Rep. Wesley Hunt is also running for the Republican nomination and currently trails both candidates in primary polling.

A recent poll by Emerson College Polling and Nexstar Media shows a tight race between Paxton and Cornyn, with Hunt running in third. Paxton receives 27% support, while Cornyn comes in at 26%. Hunt registers 16%.

Despite his position in the primary, the poll found that if Hunt were to become the Republican nominee, he would be competitive against the Democratic primary front-runners, Rep. Jasmine Crockett and state Rep. James Talarico.

In a matchup between Hunt and Talarico, 47% of registered Texas voters support Hunt, compared to 44% who support Talarico.

In a contest against Crockett, Hunt received 48% support, compared to 43% for Crockett.
