Top 4 Leaders To Meet Ahead of Looming Government Shutdown

Lawmakers are returning to Capitol Hill this week with just a handful of days to strike a deal to fund the government. Parts of the government will shut down Friday night if Congress fails to act.

With a full shutdown possible by March 8, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on Sunday said leaders had not yet reached a compromise on spending bills, blaming House Republicans for the delay.

Speaker Mike Johnson, meanwhile, blamed Democrats for making last-minute demands that he says are holding up negotiations.

Schumer and Johnson, along with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, will meet Tuesday with President Biden to discuss government funding and aid for Ukraine and Israel.
