Trump nominates second Georgian to his administration

(The Center Square) – President-elect Donald Trump has nominated former U.S. Sen. Kelly Loeffler to lead the Small Business Administration, calling her a “tremendous fighter” during her time in the Senate.

“Kelly will bring her experience in business and Washington to reduce red tape, and unleash opportunity for our small businesses to grow, innovate and thrive,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social. “She will focus on ensuring that SBA is accountable to taxpayers by cracking down on waste, fraud, and regulatory overreach.”

Loeffler was appointed to the U.S. Senate seat formerly held by the late Johnny Isakson by Gov. Brian Kemp. She began her tenure in January 2020 and served just one year before Sen. Raphael Warnock, a Democrat, defeated her.

In a social media post, Loeffler said she was honored to be nominated.

“Small businesses are huge for America. They’re the beating heart of our economy and the gateway to the American Dream,” Loeffler said. “The America First Agenda will unleash a new era of growth and opportunity for job creators and innovators!”

Loeffler is the second Georgian nominated for a spot in Trump’s administration. Former U.S. Rep. Doug Collins, who ran against Loeffler for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in 2020, is Trump’s choice for secretary of Veterans Affairs.
