Trump Orders Warning Signs Outside Smithsonian History Museum

WASHINGTON (AURN News) — President Donald Trump has ordered warning signs installed outside the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, telling visitors some exhibits contain what he calls “inaccurate information.”

The signs are not up yet. Friday’s executive order sets no timeline. It directs the National Park Service to post the signs on public sidewalks outside the museum.

Here’s what’s behind it. Last August, Trump criticized the Smithsonian, saying it spent too much time on “how bad Slavery was” and not enough on “Success,” “Brightness” and “the Future.” The museum houses artifacts including the Greensboro lunch counter, President Abraham Lincoln’s top hat and exhibits documenting generations of Black history.

A White House report released July 4 accused the museum of failing to tell history in a way officials described as “inspiring and unifying.”

Museum director Anthea M. Hartig defended the institution before Congress, saying the report does not fairly represent the museum’s work.
