Trump Says Iran Deal Is Near as Fighting and U.S. Troop Presence Grow

(AURN News) — President Donald Trump said Iran wants to make a deal.

Speaking with reporters, he said there are 15 points of agreement, claiming U.S. officials held talks with what he called a “respected Iranian leader” just one day earlier.

But Iran has denied those talks.

The president is also backing off, at least temporarily, on threats to strike Iranian power plants, extending his own deadline by five days.

The developments come as tensions reach a boiling point in a war entering its fourth week, with more than 2,000 people killed across the region, according to reporting from The Associated Press.

While diplomacy is being discussed, the military buildup is intensifying — roughly 2,500 U.S. Marines and additional warships are moving into the region, forces designed to secure territory and major shipping lanes like the Strait of Hormuz.

The disruption is also hitting Americans at the pump and driving global prices higher.
