Trump Threatens to Invoke Insurrection Act in Minneapolis

(AURN News) – President Donald Trump threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act in a statement saying, “If the corrupt politicians in Minnesota don’t obey the law and stop the professional agitators and insurrectionists from attacking the Patriots of ICE who are only trying to do their job, I will institute the Insurrection Act, which many presidents have done before me, and quickly put an end to the travesty that’s taking place in that once great state.”

Those words are from President Donald Trump, who threatened to deploy the military into Minnesota as protests continued over federal immigration enforcement in Minneapolis. The president is discussing invoking the Insurrection Act – a rarely used law that allows presidents to deploy troops or federalize the National Guard over a governor’s objections.

It has been invoked more than two dozen times in U.S. history. The most recent instance was in 1992, when President George H.W. Bush invoked the act at the request of California officials during unrest in Los Angeles.
