(AURN News) — George Hardy, one of the last surviving Tuskegee Airmen who flew combat missions in three wars, has died at his home in Sarasota, Florida, at age 100, The New York Times reported.

A Philadelphia native, Hardy was just 19 when he trained at Tuskegee Army Air Field in 1944 and went on to fly 21 missions in World War II.

He later flew 45 missions in the Korean War and 70 in Vietnam, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross and 12 Air Medals.

After his military career, he became an engineer and educator.

Hardy spent decades sharing the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen, highlighting both their combat achievements and their fight against racism.
