WA Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez calls for Biden to exit presidential race

(The Center Square) – U.S. Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, D-WA, has joined other federal elected officials in the state in calling for President Joe Biden to exit the 2024 presidential race.

In a statement provided by the representative’s press secretary, Gluesenkamp Perez wrote the following in an email to KGW in Portland, Ore.: “I’ve spent the past two weeks listening to my constituents express their concerns about the President’s age and health. Like most people I represent in Southwest Washington, I doubt the President’s judgement about his health, his fitness to do the job, and whether he is the one making important decisions about our country, rather than unelected advisors. Americans deserve to feel their president is fit enough to do the job. The crisis of confidence in the President’s leadership needs to come to an end. The President should do what he knows is right for the country and put the national interest first.”

Gluesenkamp Perez is the latest federal lawmaker from the Evergreen State to come out against Biden.

Rep. Adam Smith has also called for Biden to leave the race, while Sen. Patty Murray has said the president needs to do more to demonstrate he’s able to win the election.
