WATCH: Illinois In Focus Daily | Tuesday May 20th, 2025

(The Center Square) – In today’s edition of Illinois in Focus Daily, The Center Square Associate Editor Greg Bishop reviews a recent letter the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division sent Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson announcing an investigation into the city’s hiring practices that could run afoul of civil rights laws.

Bishop also shares messages of condolences to political leaders from both sides of the aisle to the news of former President Joe Biden’s cancer diagnosis, and questions about whether there was a sweeping coverup of Biden’s overall health from during his presidency.

Finally, with less than two weeks before the May 31 state budget deadline, Bishop discusses the issue of Illinois legislators advancing new programs with taxpayer costs that are “subject to appropriation.”
