WASHINGTON (AURN News) — A new White House Domestic Policy Council report accuses the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History of “extreme political activism.”
The report claims the museum has moved away from celebrating America’s founders and toward exhibits focused on racism, slavery, immigration, gender and oppression.
It says the museum should tell a more patriotic story of America ahead of the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Critics say this is an effort to police Black, Native, immigrant, women’s and LGBTQ history under the banner of patriotism. For Black America, the question becomes clear: Who gets to define the American story?
Telling the truth about slavery, Jim Crow, stolen land and systemic racism is not anti-American. It is American history.
