Wisconsin congressman calls for Harris to invoke 25th

A Western Wisconsin’s Republican congressman is pushing Vice President Kamala Harris to replace President Biden, immediately.

Congressman Derrick Van Orden said Harris should invoke the 25th Amendment and remove President Biden from office.

Also on Monday, West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey renewed his call for Harris to invoke the amendment and take over as president.

Van Orden wrote Harris a letter laying out the case that Biden is no longer of “sound mind and body.”

“I write to you with a profound sense of urgency regarding the President of the United States’ inability to perform his constitutional duties as Chief Executive and Commander in Chief,” Van Orden wrote. “As the leader of the free world, it is paramount that the president is of both sound mind and body. It is readily apparent that President Biden is neither.”

Van Orden has been a loud and frequent critic of Biden and has been critical of Harris in the past as well.

But he said Biden’s recent decline and what he called obvious struggles are too serious to ignore.

“I take no pleasure in making this request, but the country and the world need confidence in our government at this time in history like no other,” Van Orden added.

He said Harris must invoke the 25th to protect the country.

“It is my firm belief that while President Biden remains in office, our country and the world are unnecessarily at risk. To ameliorate the uncertainty and restore the trust placed in you by the American people and our global partners, you must act now,” Van Orden wrote. “You must convene the Cabinet and implore them to declare President Biden incapable of executing the duties of his office. By doing so, you will be taking a necessary step to restore faith and confidence in our government. This action is essential for the maintenance of national and global stability.”

Harris’ camp has not responded to Van Orden’s letter.
