Wisconsin residents less concerned about food, housing costs than most in U.S.

The Center Square) – Wisconsin residents are faring better than most in terms of ability to pay for food and housing, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s Household Pulse Survey.

Less than 30% of respondents in the state say they will have difficulty paying usual household expenses while just 9.5% say there is a likelihood of eviction or foreclosure, the third-lowest number in the country. North Dakota topped the list at just 4.3% while Iowa was on the opposite end of the survey with 55.1% concerned about eviction or foreclosure.

The survey ran from July 23 to Aug. 19.

Wisconsin also had the second-lowest total percentage of residents concerned with the ability to pay energy bills at 15.4%, just below Hawaii’s 15.3%.

Most U.S. residents say they are concerned about price increases in the future, with 75.2% in Wisconsin saying they are concerned, which was just the ninth-highest number. West Virginia residents were the most concerned at 86.6%

Wisconsin residents were also one of the lowest in reported food scarcity at 8.0%, ranking seventh behind states such as New Hampshire (7.0%) and Rhode Island (7.1%) while 17.0% in Georgia reported food scarcity.
