Regional Meeting Of Sorority to Be Held

NORMAN—The 90th Mid-Western Regional Conference of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority will be held next month in Norman.
The meeting will be held from Thursday, March 19-through Sunday, March 22, with headquarters at the Embassy Suites Hotel & Conference Center in Norman.
More than 800 members of the 112-year-old sorority representing eight states are expected to attend the eight-state regional meeting.
The Mid-Western Region includes Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana and Colorado.
During the four-day meeting, regional business will be conducted and a number of community service projects will be sponsored.
A statement said the conference is likely to have an economic impact of more than $700,000 in Norman and Oklahoma City.
Twyla Woods Buford is regional director and Dr. Glenda Glover is president of the sorority.
“Destination Excellence” is the regional theme, Mrs. Buford noted, saying that theme is emphasized by all chapters in the eight-state region as they go about their work of community service.
The meeting is being coordinated by Monica Finley (conference chairman), and Joanne Davis and Tiece Dempsey (co-chairmen).
They are working with graduate and undergraduate chapters from Norman, Oklahoma City, Edmond and Lawton to coordinate the conference.
