Highspeed train route connects Boston, New York City, Washington

(The Center Square) – Riders from the northeast region’s biggest cities will soon board a new highspeed train to the nation’s capital, Amtrak said Thursday.

The NextGen Acela will connect Boston, New York City and Washington along a 457-mile route that will offer nearly one-third more seats and expanded weekday and weekend service starting Aug. 28.

“NextGen Acela is more than a new train – it’s an evolution of travel,” said Amtrak President Roger Harris. “In just a few weeks, history will be made with the debut of NextGen Acelas we launch a new standard for American train travel.”

It’s just the latest in a string of new route announcements from the railway titan, with added service debuted along the Gulf Coast.

The Acela fleet, of which 28 will roll out through 2027, was manufactured in Hornell, New York at Alstom, a rail transport company.
